About Me

My photo
Pretty things. I love neat, well-constructed, well thought out pretty things. Whether it is fashion; the everyday clothes I wear on my back, soft furnishings; what I have all around me, they have got to be pretty. Most of the time, objects seem to pick me; I just know what I want when I see it.

Hobbs - Silk Scarves

Scarves...you can't go wrong with a beautiful silk scarf...and Hobbs is the pace to go.

I'm in love with Emily Bonds' textile collection

I've just fallen in love with a new fabric designer Emily Bond. Her designs are beautifully simple, elegant and are not floral which does make a change. From what I can see her inspiration is the English countryside; animals, mainly dogs, though there is a 'diary cow' print thrown into the mix. Her printed fabrics are built up by repeated images, on natural linen. Though she doesn’t only do fabrics she also does wallpapers and has recently branched into home ware, making cute tea cosies, tea towels and little dog beds.

My Life so far...

I feel I need to write a little about myself, so here goes...
Well I was born on the 28th February 1988, I’m the only daughter of Peter Knightley and Susan Knightley, and I have two older brothers Jason and Jamie, which I both hate and adore
I've lived in South Devon all my life; Devon will always be my true home whatever happens. I spent the first 10 years of my life in Torbay, next to the seaside then we moved to a little village called Stoke Gabriel on the outskirts of Totnes. My family moved to send my brother and I to the local community college, Kevicc. That was probably the best thing my parents, well specifically my mum has done in my entire life, I just fell into a lovely group of friends and the very special lifestyle that comes with Totnes.
I would like to think I’m a very outgoing person, I have always kept myself busy, sometimes a little to busy, but I can't complain.
Fashion has always been a big part of my life; my mum was a true fashionista growing up the 60's and 70's, which definitely rubbed of on my eldest brother (of who is also a complete fashionista and queen!) and I. My eldest brother is a lot older than me, and for a good chunk of my childhood he lived in London, doing Fashion Business and Management at London College of Fashion. I remember going up and staying with him, we spent the entire week shopping, wondering the streets, gazing into the windows along Bond Street.
The combination of growing up around the two of them definitely influenced the way I feel and think about clothes, colour, texture, quality, and everything to do with the design and construction of garments we wear.
For a long time of my life fashion was always just there, I never even thought about it seriously, or even considered it as a career option because I lived fashion, it is so natural to me to co-ordinate an outfit or nit pick at designs and fabrics in department stores.
Fashion was there, but it wasn't the biggest thing to me as a child, I was very active, I loved sports, swimming was my favourite. However I also sailed, did gymnastics, played tennis and everything else you can learn at school and at my local leisure centre! Though when I was about 7 or 8 I had to focus myself, and I decided I would focus on swimming, I love the water whether it's the sea or the pool, I can spend hours in it! Swimming it was, I competed for Devon up until I was about 12, when I gave it up and kept it as I hobby. These days I still love it, and I have also picked sailing up again, and have my own Lark, which is a sailing dinghy that I sail with my boyfriend Harry.
When I was 17 I had to make a big career choice, I wasn't sure what I wanted to, I wasn't one those children that dreamed about being a doctor or a journalist. Though I did know what I enjoyed and what I was good at; and at that particular time it was textiles and ICT...so it was decision decision time and I chose ICT, I chose to study Computing and Interaction Design at Goldsmiths University of London.
At around this time I had another decision to make, however I instantly knew the answer to this one; I always had my heart set on having a gap year between taking my A-levels and starting uni, I just knew I wanted time out to explore the world and give myself time away from family and England; time to think and learn.
So Bexs; a very good friend and I flew out to Thailand the October after finishing our A-levels, we had it all planned out two months in Thailand where we were going to do our Dive masters, lye around on white sandy beaches and sun ourselves under palm trees, it was heaven. We even spent Christmas day swimming off our local beach, popping in for a Thai massage then on to Safety Stop which was the bar owned by the dive shop, where we all sat down to the closest thing you could get to a true Christmas roast. What more could you want. Well as we found out there is more to life because we flew out of Thailand to Australia on the 28th December, where we spent New Years sunning ourselves drinking wine in the botanical gardens, with fireworks going off all around us.
So back to reality and the big move to London, remember that big decision I had to make, thought I had made the right one, how wrong I was, I hated it, well I hated New Cross, weeks and weeks stuck in Central London, I was not ready for it at that point of my life.
Back home I went, to enrol onto the FD fashion course at Plymouth College of Art.
Back doing what I love.
